Asbury United Methodist reaches out to those in need of physical or spiritual help. We do it informally by visiting the sick and disabled in homes, hospitals, and extended care facilities. We help provide food, clothing, and other assistance where we find a need. Specifically, we help to stock the food pantry at Sand Branch United Methodist Church.
We also reach out through established missions. Asbury makes periodic donations to the missions described below.
Heifer International (HI) works with communities to end hunger and poverty and care for the earth. By giving livestock and training, HI helps families improve their nutrition and generate income in sustainable ways. In exchange for their livestock and training, families agree to give one of its animal’s offspring to another family in need. It’s called Passing on the Gift.
Holston United Methodist Home for Children serves hundreds of children and their families each year. The goal is to support families and to assure each child is surrounded by the love and nurture of a family.
Holston Conference Change for Children
Each year, churches give loose change to benefit children’s ministries in Holston Conference and in Africa. And each year, several groups receive that pocket change in the form of grants.
Change for Children grants support new and existing ministries with economically disadvantaged children, from birth to age 12, and their families. Holston churches and related United Methodist agencies are eligible for these funds.
The Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church supports missions in our conference, nationally, and internationally. The focus of the ministries is to assist those in need; whether sick, hungry, helpless, or hopeless. The objective of the missions is to encourage, inspire, and provide opportunities for a better life to those who need help.
The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is the not-for-profit global humanitarian aid organization of the United Methodist Church. UMCOR responds to natural or civil disasters that are interruptions of such magnitude that they overwhelm a community’s ability to recover on its own. UMCOR is working in more than 80 countries worldwide, including the United States. Our mission, grounded in the teachings of Jesus, is to alleviate human suffering—whether caused by war, conflict or natural disaster, with open hearts and minds to all people.
